No prior Blacksmithing experience necessary. Open to all skill levels.
Group class, up to 6 people - Cost $300 per person, all materials included. No hidden fees.
One day class 6-to-8-hours.
Craft your own tomahawk style axe in this special one-day class. These axes are light and fast, perfect for small camp work and balanced beautifully for throwing.
Description of class -
You will learn the wrapped eye technique to make a tomahawk/camp axe.
You will also learn construction methods historically used and the tooling needed to make them.
You will be introduced to the skills of proper heat treatment.
Process of construction -
You’ll forge a pre-form then wrap and forge-weld the pre-form before forging the axe to shape.
You’ll prepare your axe for heat treatment, hardening, tempering and then taken to the grinder to make the final edge bevel.
You’ll then attach the handle to your axe head.
Start time is 10am. Class time frame 6-to-8-hours in a single day. There will be a 1-hour break for lunch. (Bring your own lunch. See our FAQ page.)
Please note: For safety reasons we cannot accept students under 13 years of age. If a student is under 18 years of age a guardian must be present for the entirety of the class. Although not required, we encourage the guardian to take the class with the student.
